Cartographers are the people who write the maps. As it turns out, we need new maps. The world is changing and we have some very real problems that we need to overcome.
Our new cartographers are a handful of people who are test driving new ways of living in order to find solutions to some of our biggest challenges. They are modern day pioneers and revolutionaries. What is impressive to me is that most of the new cartographers are individuals--not big corporations with substantial resources, just a handful of people following their convictions and trying to figure it out. They then blog, research, write books and make films about it so that others can see what they find out.
Meet Mike Strizki, founder of the Hydrogen House Project. In 2006, Strizki converted his own home to run on solar-hydrogen power, including a hydrogen vehicle fueling station.
Michael Henning of Sovran Films is working to tell Strizki's story. If you are passionate about this, you can be part by donating to the Indiegogo campaign to fund the film. That's the best part about cartography. You can follow the maps, or you can actually be part of making them.
