God doesn't love you like a charity case

God doesn't love you like a charity case.

You know "charity case love." That kind of love where you don't deeply enjoy the other person.  You spend time with them as a favor—from a place of you being better than them.  You might feel that you love them "in spite of their flaws," but in reality it isn't quite love because you don't receive from them. It is a one-way flow.

God loves you, loves you. Like "chocolate cake" loves you.

He wouldn't love you more if you went to church more often.
He wouldn't love you more if you were 5 lbs thinner.
He wouldn't love you more if you kicked that addiction.

He LOVES you. As you are. Where you are. In ways so deep that if you fully realized it, it would scare the snot out of you.

Would your life "work" better if you went to church, lost 5 lbs., kicked the addiction? Maybe.

But God and His love for you transcends all of that.

The challenge is in being open to it. Because we....well, we mostly love ourselves like charity cases. It is hard for us to accept "chocolate cake" kind of love.
