Quieting the mind by taking care of our bodies

A friend and I had a conversation this week about how sometimes we can get too stuck in our heads.  Worry and the running of scenarios that goes with it can suck our energy and steal our sleep.

Our brains solve problems...its what they do.  But as John Eldridge so aptly quipped, "Life is not a problem to be solved. It is an adventure to be lived."

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our minds is to get into our bodies.

Rest, eating, exercise, deep breathing or a long soak in a bathtub can produce amazing results when our minds are on overdrive. Not only does self-care produce positive impact but so does the tactile and tangible.  Digging in the dirt, getting a massage, petting the dog or just going outside and breathing fresh air is powerful. Physical activities help ground us.

So the next time you are caught in a mental loop, try doing something physical.  It actually helps.
