There is really only one question...

Did you hear the line in the movie, The Amazing Spider Man, where one of Peter Parker's high school teachers says: “It’s said there are only 10 plots in all of fiction, but I believe there’s only one:‘Who am I?’”

That line struck me as particularly true.

Oh for sure, we can think up better questions. Things that sound more noble or auspicious.

But at the end of the day, that is the only question that we care about.

It is the reason the "what ________ are you" quizzes are so popular on Facebook.

We continually look outside of ourselves for the answer to this question.  We ask it of lovers and friends. We assess the evidence by the way strangers treat us in a mall.

Who am I?

We tell stories and read stories and watch movies not to find out who they are, but also to find out who we are.
