I am pretty sure that joy and judgment are opposites.
The more we are busy evaluating ourselves and others, the less joy we are able to feel.
I am pretty sure that gratitude and criticism are opposites.
The more we notice things and become grateful, the more criticism falls away.
I am pretty sure that love and fear are opposites.
The more we love, the less we are afraid.
If we have something negative that we want to minimize in our life, the worst thing we can do is "fight it." The more effective path is to focus on its positive opposite and pour our energy into building more of that.
Most importantly, the more we "engage the opposite" the more free we become.
